Tolkin, this is Nick Berry. I just wanted to say hello and thank you for being so good to me growing up. I live in Nashville and play music full time, which has been amazing. I’ve learned so much from you and I’m really appreciative of your emphasis on learning every style of music. I’ve been able to play with so many different groups because of it…

Dear Tolkin,
Thank you for these past few years. Your lessons have greatly impacted my playing. I wouldn’t be where I am without you. I’ll miss you as a teacher—please look after Corey and Peter for me!

Jake
Dear Tolkin,
Thank you for seven great years of drum and life lessons. Our time together means a lot to me, and I look forward to visiting. I’ll send you any music I work on and can’t wait to see your new students grow.
Thanks again,
Jake

My name is Kira Glanton, and I was a student of Tolkin’s for almost 7 years. Tolkin was my first drum teacher, and I’m very glad that I was under his guidance for so long. Not only did Tolkin teach me the fundamentals of percussion, but he also helped me develop my skills to become a more musical player. I’m currently studying percussion performance at Oberlin Conservatory, and I can confidently say that working with Tolkin for as long as I did helped me tremendously in my journey to becoming a professional musician.

Kelly’s mom:
Tolkin –
Thanks for the awesome job of teaching Kelly about drums. My hope is she continues down the road—maybe through school, church, or just for fun. You’ve been a great teacher. Thanks for everything.

After many years of playing the timpani, I noticed that the quality of the sound depends on the quality of mallet, deepness of the stroke, weight of the mallet and the speed of response. I dreamed of developing universal mallets to achieve any expectations timpanists would have. There are also many moments when one must switch from timpani to metal instruments such as the triangle, bell tree, wind-chimes or bells. The mallets I developed are universal, enabling players to flexibly switch from the timpani to metal instruments and back.
I noticed that if the stick has a little more depth, your finger positioning becomes more comfortable. I developed a unique shape on the part of the stick where your hand is placed which allows you to use your finger technique. This customized grip position is made for speed and fine playing.
